Join Sustainable Essex and the Connecticut River Conservancy as we gather to collect trash and litter along the roadways and waterways proximal to the Connecticut River. We will tally the trash using a smartphone app, which allows us to track the most often littered materials. This data helps inform legislative policy to either reduce the amount of plastic in consumer materials or incentivize recycling of highly-littered items.
When: Saturday, September 24, 2022 at 9am-12pm, Come any time and stay as long as you can, or just for an hour! Day-of registration also open. Please be sure to register and sign the waiver.
Where: Meet at the Connecticut River Museum. We will then break into groups to disperse around town to pick up litter. There will be sites along sidewalks with easy terrain, and spots along roadsides with more challenging terrain. After picking up trash, all sites will return to the River Museum to drop off trash and hard-to-dispose items, rest and refresh, and show off their most unique finds!
Bring: Please wear long pants, proper footwear, and bug spray! We will supply some gloves, but if you have a pair, please bring them. We will also distribute free t-shirts to wear on Saturday so we look like a force to reckon with around town. Bring a refillable water bottle; we will have refill stations and snacks thanks to our sponsors Lupii, GF Bar, Jana Banana, and Emmy’s organics who provided donations.
REGISTER HERE! Make sure to register for the Essex 3-villages site!
