SUMMARY:Flower Meditation – Art and Nature Installation at Windswept Ridge
DESCRIPTION:Join us and be one of the first viewers of “The Flower Meditation”\, the first iteration of a Four Season Meditation art and nature journey at Windswept Ridge. Created by artist Jennifer Longworth\, in collaboration with the Essex Land Trust\, it combines plant materials found around the site. (No living plants were used). Following the Four Pebble Meditation taught by Buddhist monk and activist Thich Nhat Hanh\, the Flower represents freshness and rejuvenation. As we embrace these themes\, we affirm our own existence as a flower in the garden of humanity. \nYou may follow @essexlandtrust and @jenlongworthfineart to learn more about this project as it unfolds over the course of a year\, offering new forms for contemplation and engagement every few months. The companion Welcoming Circles just down the slope from the Flower\, offer a place to sit\, reflect\, share stories\, sing\, play\, and enjoy nature’s sensory offerings.\nOur inaugural reception will feature introductions by ELT President\, Jeff Croyle and Jen Longworth\, Artist\, Restorative Horticulturist\, and ELT Volunteer. Refreshments and conversation to follow.

SUMMARY:Full Moon Hike
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our popular Full Moon Hike at Johnson Farm. The moon will rise before our start and we’re hoping for a crystal-clear night so the moon can light our way.  The first part of the hike is moderate and goes over rocky terrain with lots of roots and a bit of elevation. The trail then opens to meadow and pastureland for an open view of the moon.  Following the hike\, we’ll head to a local venue for socializing. It’s November\, so please dress warmly and have appropriate footwear as the first part of the trail is rocky and can be wet. Bring flashlights as well as binoculars or scopes for some stargazing. This hike is weather dependent.  Please check our Facebook page for updates. Dogs are ok and must be on leash at all times. \nPlease register at: https://bit.ly/4n8HuU6

SUMMARY:Volunteers Needed for Popup Invasives Clearing at James Glen
DESCRIPTION:Essex Land Trust Invasives Steward Lois Stahlbush-Tolley is planning a pop-up invasive clearing event at the 4-acre James Glen Preserve. Two areas dominated by Japanese barberry will be the target for the occasion. Both of these areas are somewhat isolated so this effort will help prevent it from expanding farther. People should bring leather gloves\, loppers\, clippers\, and shovels. Park either at the end of Hudson or Oxbow Lanes. The small wooded valley preserve\, donated to the land trust by Essex physician Dr. James Glen\, has steep slopes on its east side and dissected by brook that feeds the Connecticut River.
