DESCRIPTION:Break up your morning routine and enjoy a nature hike with your friends at the Land Trust. Naturalist Phil Miller will lead the hike featuring the natural history of the Great Meadow Preserve as well as its flora\, fauna\, and geological features. Bring along your bird-watching gear as this area is particularly great for sightings. This hike is weather dependent. Access Pettipaug Road off River Road. Parking available at Pettipaug Yacht Club. SUMMARY:Bushy Hill Preserve Hike with the Adirondack Mountain Club - May 24
DESCRIPTION:This walk invites hikers of all ages\, those who are looking for a short hike\, and those who may be new to hiking. Join us on a 1.9 mile loop trail\, co-led by the Essex Land Trust’s steward for the Bushy Hill Preserve property. This trail features gentle ups and downs\, but no challenging rock scrambles\, and can be completed in less than 2 hours. Please wear layers appropriate for the weather and sturdy walking shoes or boots. Don’t forget your water bottle\, and a snack if desired. Please note that registration is required for this activity. DESCRIPTION:Felicia Millet\, a plant diagnostician with the Department of Plant Pathology and Ecology at The Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station\, will be onsite at Essex Library to present “Growing Mountain Laurels in Connecticut.” Mountain Laurel was named the state flower of Connecticut in 1907 and has continued to captivate residents ever since. The presentation will include a discussion of the history of these native plants\, cultivar descriptions\, tips on planting\, as well as which pests and diseases to look out for.
