The latest edition of the Essex Land Trust Preserves & Trail Guide includes all properties acquired through 2019. All trails, significant stone walls, access points and points of interest have been mapped out via GPS location to improve overall accuracy. Some preserves such as Thatchbed Island and the marshlands of the Great Meadow are largely inaccessible. They have no trails and are set aside as wildlife habitat.
Property maps have been uploaded to Maplets, an application available from your app store. Instructions on how to use the application are provided in the application. Once you have accessed a specific property map, you will be able to track your location on the map, provided your smart device has a signal.
Trail Guides are given free to all new land trust members. Trail Guides can also be purchased for $15.00 from various local outlets: The Connecticut River Museum, The Griswold Inn Shop, Gracie’s Corner, Essex Hardware, and Wild Birds Unlimited in Old Saybrook. A PDF copy of the Trail Guide can also be downloaded by clicking on the image at right.
